Hi, my name is Karen Jones and I’m happy with my body. That’s not something you hear very often is it?
The truth is I wasn’t always. I struggled with my self-image for many years, both physically and emotionally, but I took steps to change my life for the better and those changes are what inspired me to help others.
I was 16 when I had my first child and, having piled on the weight ‘post-baby’ I then dropped it very quickly and very unhealthily. This was the start of two decades of yo-yo dieting and body dysmorphia that made me thoroughly miserable and did terrible damage to my health.
At 36 years old I was faced with a choice: get control of my health, or be placed on medication for the rest of my life. I chose the former and took up running. I loved it straight away…only joking!
It was hard work and I resented every minute of those first few weeks, but I grew to love exercise, and so can you.
I’ve come a long way since those slow, achey days – I’m now a marathon runner, bikini fitness athlete, personal trainer, bootcamp instructor, power yoga teacher, author and public speaker. I’ve released a book, Happy You Happy Body and regularly speak to groups of men and women who have one common goal: to improve their lives by improving their physical wellbeing.
